Extra Life 2019 Announcements for Last Life

Hey everyone,

We’ve been a bit quiet the last few months as we wait on the next round of film fests for Would You Like To Try Again? (while also not getting swallowed alive by wedding prep). But that doesn’t mean we don’t have plans! In fact we’re revving back up some stuff we’ve been sleeping on this year.

Given that work has swallowed alot of our time, we’ve been VERY lax on our game streaming (and by lax, I mean not doing any in 2019). That will certainly change as we build out our streaming schedule for 2020. Till then, Michael’s launching another 24 HOUR game stream for Extra Life again this year.

For those who don’t know, Extra Life is an organization that facilates donations to children hospitals raised during video game marathons. Many raise ALOT of money by streaming these gaming marathons for 12 hours, 24 hours, or even beyond that.

_extra-life.png

Michael will be streaming for 24 hours starting FRIDAY NOVEMBER 8TH at 9PM. He won’t be doing it on the official Extra Life Day since we’ll be, you know, getting married and all. But he’ll catch up once we’re settled back in and ready to go. Last year, Michael neeeearrrly beat all of 2018’s God of War in one sitting. Will he do one game again? Eh, not sure. All of Spider Man, a good chunk of Red Dead 2 and a bunch indie titles have been sitting on our back burner for quite a bit. So we’ll be announcing which games he’ll be playing as we get closer to the date.

Till then, you can donate early at his Extra Life page BELOW:

https://www.extra-life.org/participant/383965

Be sure to check out his donation page now, later, or when he streams early next month. We’ll keep you posted too about more developments with our films and streams later in the year!

Thank you so much to the Sidewalk Film Festival for having our film. I’m so glad there’s an exuberant film community in my home state. I can’t wait to be back again, even if its as an audience film member!

Dances With Films Wrap Up!

Hey there y’all!

We’ve finally recovered from the incredible Dances with Films and the “Would You Like To Try Again?” premiere. It was an absolutely phenomenal experience that we’ll never forget. The films there were fantastic, the filmmakers were super friendly, and the staff and venue just straight up rocked. So thank you so much to all those who came out to our screening and chatted with us before and after at the festival.

Squint to the left side and you’ll see Jori and Michael amongst all the other filmmakers from the fest.

Squint to the left side and you’ll see Jori and Michael amongst all the other filmmakers from the fest.

A couple of things to proudly post about the film before we march on to our future projects and events coming this summer. First we had another great review from Dara Patterson Patterson of Cryptic Rock. Check the article below, where she goes on to say that “Would You Like To Try Again? is a treat for any and all who appreciate the magic of a vintage game.” https://crypticrock.com/would-you-like-to-try-again-short-movie-review/

Also, we had a great shout out earlier this month from the Behind the Lens Podcast in their Dances With Films coverage. Check out it out at the 10:00 mark here where they recommend people bring tissues to our movie: http://behindthelensonline.net/site/miscellaneous/behind-the-lens-podcast/behind-the-lens-radio-show-06-10-2019/

And that’s it for now! Some more carpet videos from the fest and interviews should be coming down the line over the next month. So be on the lookout for those as well! But we figured this was a great send off to a great June for our short film and Last Life. Thanks so much for following us this month. We promise not to blast out film coverage this month for the rest of the summer… maybe.

World Premiere Day of "Would You Like to Try Again?" at Dances With Films

Hey everyone!

Even after taking the last two days to recover, we’re still blown away by the best screening we’ve ever had with the “Would You Like to Try Again?”’s world premiere at Dances on Sunday. Here are some of the wonderful photos from the opening night carpet and world premiere day below.

Also, Kate and Michael did a couple of interviews on the opening night carpet as well. Here’s one from Breezeway Productions at the 4:00 mark: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=475157163293566

And finally, more people are raving about the film with a nice in-depth review from Tom Kircher at Horror Buzz. Take a look here at what he says is “definitely worth the replay”. https://horrorbuzz.com/2019/06/16/would-you-like-to-try-again-dances-with-films-2019-review/

Overall, we’re seriously floored by such an incredible experience. And the films at the festival have been blowing us away as well. Jori and I will be attending some screenings over the week to watch more awesome films and meet cool new filmmakers. If you’re around the TCL Chinese 6 this week, be sure to reach out and say hello.

We should be trickling in a few more tidbits of the festival and our short as the festival winds down this weekend. And of course, we’ll keep y’all updated about more upcoming screenings and projects we got going on as we continue what seems to be a stellar 2019 for Last Life. Thanks for taking a look!

2018 Wrap Up Post!

Hey y’all,

As we head towards the bulk of the holidays, we just wanted to wrap up our fantastic first year with our final post of 2018.

We released “Save and Continue” a couple of weeks ago to great success. We’ve gotten fantastic responses on our Youtube channel and on Reddit. If you haven’t seen it yet, celebrate A Link to The Past’s 28th Anniversary by watching it here:

Just recently, “Save” became one of the finalists in the inaugural Film Pipeline short film competition. This is the same team that has grown one of the largest screenplay contests in the world: Script Pipeline. They’re a fantastic group of talented people and we’re so honored to be one of the 12 stellar films chosen. We can’t wait to see them all soon. Check out the announcement here!

Our next project “Would You Like To Try Again?” is in the very final stages of post production. We will have more to say about that film in the coming year!

Finally, we also wrapped our first 24 hour Extra Life Stream (all God of War). We raised nearly 200 dollars (more than I was able to last year) for the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital! We’re still trying to find the time to archive all 24 hours on our Youtube channel. In the meantime, check out the archive on our Twitch Channel. We were NEARLY able to finish the entire game in one sitting but couldn’t due to some technical hiccups and my ineptitude at playing the game in the final hours. SO to wrap up our streaming for the year, we’ll be finishing up our play through this Thanksgiving in what we may call our Extra Life Overtime stream? Follow us on Facebook to find out when you can watch live.

And that’s it! Thanks again for following us throughout the year and supporting our growing production company. We hope you’ve liked what we’ve done and hope to reach out to even more film lovers and game lovers in 2019!

Have a happy holidays!

Last Life team,
Jori and Michael

"Save and Continue" NOW ONLINE!

Hey there y’all,

After alot of talk and build up from our Last Life website, we’re finally pleased to share with the world our first project, “Save and Continue”!

I’ll keep it brief since words don’t begin to describe how passionate I feel about this film. But I’ll give a loving heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this movie happen. The wonderful cast, talented crew, and everyone in between made “Save and Continue” a reality bigger and better than anything I jotted down years ago. You can read more about the cast here, the crew here, and the film’s world premiere here.

This was an especially personal project for me given how huge chunks of this film were inspired by my earliest memories in life. But I never wanted it to be just an insight into my past. More importantly, I want “Save and Continue” to inspire discussion about how video games can be a powerful tool in coping with life trauma. And my biggest hope for “Save” is that in its initial online release, maybe a few people can check it out and reflect about the times video games have made a similar impact on their lives.

So check it out! If you dug the film, like and subscribe to the Last Life Films youtube page. Comment if you wanna shout out any cast or crew. They did alot of hard work that plays wonderfully when you watch. So give them some love if possible.

And, of course, share, share, share this film if at all possible. It takes a strong word of mouth to really help this film find its truly unique audience. Any share would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, enjoy the film and thanks for taking the time for indulging me on this journey. Hope you like!

Best,

Michael Felker

Just like with “Save”, we’ll be eventually posting about the cast and crew who worked on the film as well as dropping some Behind The Scenes material that show off the locations out in Palm Springs, California.

Lastly, a quick reminder: we’ll be doing a 24 hour Extra Life stream on Friday, November 9th starting at 9pm PST. Come check us out and donate to charity while you’re at it at https://www.extra-life.org/participant/Michael-Felker. Most likely, we’ll be chatting about “Save”’s release, video games, and other cool stuff (if I haven’t lost my mind 16 hours in).

Thanks, party peeps,

Last Life Team,

Jori and Michael

Last Life does EXTRA LIFE!

Hey there!

Quick post today. Last Life will be doing a 24 hour Extra Life stream this year! I know. Its nuts. But we want to get the word out well in advance. So take a look at our Extra Life page here and donate anything you can!

https://www.extra-life.org/participant/Michael-Felker

We have a modest goal of 100 bucks. Easily attainable (Michael did somewhere around that amount for his 12 hour play through last year). All proceeds will go towards the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital. Jori researched and volunteered there, and they are just the best people.

Our stream will start on FRIDAY NOVEMBER 9TH at (or around) 9PM So we’re not playing the big Extra Life game day on the 2nd, but the week after. Not sure what we’ll be playing, but probably our back catalogue of indie games and God of War. So take a look and donate! Anything will be much appreciated.

A few bucks goes a long way at the Los

But in the immediate future, we'll be going full steam into our ongoing game streams. First Look at "Would You Like To Try Again?"

Hey y'all!

Jori and Michael again. Another brief post, but a big one: after much recovery from production and travel, we finally have our first look at our next project "Would You Like To Try Again?"

Jennifer Entering Arcade.jpg

We had an incredible shoot over in Palm Springs and Calimesa that couldn't have been possible if it weren't for the insane amount of hard work and dedication from our wonderful cast and crew. We will give them specific shout outs in good time, but for now, all we can say is thank you so much for making this project come alive in ways I've never seen before. I can't wait to see it all come together as we gear for post-production.

As for other news, tickets for "Save and Continue" are up for LA Shorts! If you're in Los Angeles, grab tickets for the July 29th 3:15 pm screening at Laemmle Noho 7 right HERE. We'll post pictures of our big premiere as well some more photos from our time last week at San Diego Comic Con. And of course, we will be streaming games once again come August. Stay tuned!
